IPL Laser Treatments

Prestidge Beauty offer now IPL & Laser Treatments.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

The energy for the light source is taken up by the pigments (melanin) in the hair. Hair removal with IPL is accomplished by the generation of heat from the light in the melanin, which is then transferred to the root of the hair follicle.
We can only kill hair that’s in the Anagen (full growth) stage, this when the hair is attached to the dermal papilla. Because light travels down the hair shaft and kills the dermal papilla, the hair needs to be attached as light cannot ‘jump’ the gap. Your hair normally grows in cycles of 3 to 5 weeks and that is why you need multiple sessions as we cannot tell at what growth stage your hair is at any given time.
What do I need to do between treatments?

You should avoid tanning one month ahead and during the entire treatment scenario to avoid excessive discomfort from excessive light absorption in the epidermis. If we feel that your skin has more colour than previous treatment or patch test, then we advise that you wait a further 4 weeks for the tan to fad so that we can proceed with the treatment. If you feel concerned please call us 24hrs before your treatment so that we can do a patch test.

On treatment day, please do not use deodorant, perfumed or aromatherapy products.
Immediately after the treatment the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light and strong sunlight should be avoided for 4-5 days
You are required not to wax, tweeze, thread or pull out the hair in the area during treatments. Shaving. Trimming or the use of hair removal creams are acceptable forms of the skin). hair control between sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
Only hair in the growth phase (anagen) can be treated. The number of hairs in this phase varies from 10% to 70% depending on the body site. The lengths of the growth cycles also vary. For most patients six to eight treatments with one to two months interval is sufficient to remove virtually all hairs.
After the first treatment, most patients get a significant reduction in hair density, and new grown hairs tend to become finer.
There is a chance that your body will grow more follicles and some more hair over time, but no hair will grow in the follicles we kill. This growth will be dependent on hormone levels so each individual will be different. Therefore, you will need one or two maintenance sessions perhaps 12 monthly or sometimes even longer apart.
Does it hurt?
The pain depends upon the concentration of melanin in the epidermis and the hairs combined, as the light energy is absorbed by the pigments (melanin and haemoglobin); consequently, it hurts more in dark-skinned people and those with dense, dark hairs.
No anaesthesia is required, and most patients describe the pain as moderate and acceptable (as if a rubber band is snapped against the skin)
What are the side effects?

IPL & Laser is completely safe so no special precautions are needed apart from glasses for the brightness of the light. The skin of some patients becomes quite red immediately after treatment and very rarely small blisters (from excessive sun exposure) can occur. However, most patients experience no side-effects at all and the described skin reactions above usually disappear within hours to a few days.

How do I get started?
You need to come and see us for your free consultation. At the consultation we will explain how everything works, what it means for you, the treatment protocol, discuss pricing. If you are in agreement to continue with treatment, we carry out a patch test for you. The patch test will be near to the area to be treated.
Once you have had the patch test, we will see how your skin reacts to the treatment over the next 24 hours. If we are satisfied that your skin is suitable, then your treatment programme can begin
What happens in the treatment?
  • IPL/Laser hair removal is a fairly simple procedure. It is advisable to shave 24 hours prior to your first treatment.
  • ◦The area is cleaned, and any make up or deodorant residue is removed.
  • ◦Any long hair is trimmed from the area being treated.
  • ◦A cooling Gel is applied in order to protect the skin.
  • ◦The IPL/Laser head is applied to the skin and will produce a light to kill the hair follicle. (This may be uncomfortable but not painful.)
  • ◦Aloe Vera is applied to soothe the area and on exposed areas SPF 30+ sun protection is also used.
After the Treatment
  • Hairs will fall out 10-14 days after the treatment
  • Keep the area cool 24hrs post treatment
  • We recommend that you apply Aloe Vera to the skin 24hrs after the treatment.
  • Please avoid sun exposure as it is not advisable whilst undergoing IPL hair removal – this may cause hyperpigmentation. (Sun exposure can also affect how the IPL reacts on your skin and may cause an adverse reaction)
  • If you are having Laser Hair Removal on the face please make sure that exposed areas are covered in a high quality broad spectrum SPF 30+ between sessions, (We have a range of broad spectrum SPF 30+ products available for purchase if you wish)
IPL Skin Rejuvenation:
It’s nearly impossible to get through life without unsightly veins, blood vessels, age spots, and freckles on the face. They are a problem for millions of men and women worldwide.
Both the pleasures and stresses of life, along with the simple passage of time tend to cause our skin to appear older. The signs of photo ageing and sun damage are typically most visible on the face and body.
Photo-rejuvenation using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that treats sun damage without disruption of the skins surface, meaning no down time. Intense Pulsed Light IPL can simultaneously treat a wide range of facial concerns safely and effectively, such as broken capillaries, facial redness, benign brown pigment, age spots, sun induced freckles and mottled pigmentation
This treatment can soften and reduce the appearance of several skin conditions including:
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Thread veins
  • Age Pigmentation Spots
  • Sun damage
  • Fine Lines
  • Brown Spots
Nail Fungal :
Nail fungal infections are becoming increasingly common, affecting up to one in ten of the UK population. They can be unsightly and embarrassing, common symptoms include white or yellow spots and thickened and distorted nail. In severe cases, the nail may become brittle and break apart or fall off.
Until now, nail fungus has been VERY difficult to treat; at Prestidge Beauty we provide a comfortable, effective and non-invasive treatment. Clients now have a treatment option that does not involve taking medication that may be toxic to the liver and the inconvenience of frequent blood tests to monitor liver function.
The treatment works by applying a high-concentrated energy directly to the nail with sufficient temperature destroying the fungus embedded in the nail bed and nail plate. This treatment is more effective and better for you than pinpoint laser and NHS prescribed medication with a success rate of treating 80 – 100%.
Our Formatk system at Prestidge Beauty is one of the only machines of their type in the world to be able to perform this treatment.
